Upcycle Thursday

Today I have more ideas for upcycled quilts.  I found this upcycled tie quilt that can be made as a memory quilt or you can get old ties at a thrift shop.  The string pieced quilt instructions can be found here .  The  diamond star english paper pieced quilt at darling adventures is also made of old ties.

Ties That Bind pattern by Due North Designs uses old ties in a "bow tie" pattern.

I have a basket of striped dress shirts from a friend who took early retirement from teaching high school (surprise) and have been wondering how to make them into a quilt.  I found this quilt idea there .  I think it looks great with the centres a solid fabric.  This will be one of my UFO projects for this year.  He has only been retired for 3 years - when did he expect to get the quilt - for a retirement present - yeah right!!!

Hope everyone has a great day and think about what you can make into a upcycled quilt.  Doesn't upcycled sound so much classier than recycled.  Recycled always reminds me of water bottles and tin cans.

UFO #1 done

This weekend I managed to get the first in a long line of UFO's done.  It is a stack and whack quilt that I started at a workshop in October.  It will go to my father-in-law for a belated birthday (only two weeks late)gift.  It is a lap size and has fleece on the back.

I also managed to get some of the Dear Jane blocks done.  I got week 7 minus the flag and week 8 done.  I am almost caught up.  These little blocks take a lot more time that I thought.

Hope everyone has a good day.
I'm off to shovel the driveway.

Upcycle Thursday

Today I have an upcycle idea from Recover Girl for a patchwork quilt made from recycled wool sweaters.  Head on over to her blog for the tutorial .

I also found this cute scarf that was upcycled from old sweaters.  You can find the tutorial at Stuff Steph Does here .

I have been keeping up with the creative everyday challenge and here is what I have been working on since Monday.   It will be done today.  I think this qualifies as a UFO finish as well. This is a Bead Journal project 2011 piece - I have 7 done and will put them together and call it a day and move on to finishing the Bead Journal Project pieces for 2012.

Have a great day!!

Creative Every Day

I have just joined the Creative Every Day Challenge.  I hope that I can keep it up with my Dear Jane challenge as well.  I am also trying to make this year the year that I finish up those UFOs.  I have recently had the push to sort out the UFOs because we had a dryer fire in our laundry-sewing room (caught in time so there was not too much damage - a load of laundry melted-burned and smoke damage).  We had to take everything out of the room to clean up the smoke damage and I have been sorting it as it goes back in.  I had two applique projects ready to go and I decided to not go ahead with them (does that count as my projects finished for January).  I am currently working on a stack and whack quilt that I started in a workshop and have decided to give to my father-in-law for his birthday.  It will be finished this week - I will post photos then.  And I have a sweater that I started knitting 4-5 years ago that I am working on during the evening time.  I am hoping it will be done before the end of the month also.  My goal is to try and get two UFOs done each month (no pressure)  Enough rambling for one day.
I think I have found a way around the problem with posting pictures.  So I will attempt to post the photos for Week 5 and Week 6 again.

Have a great day!!

Happy New Year!!

I am a little late getting started this year but at least I got started.

Unlike everyone else I am proposing a New Years Revolution!!!  I am going to attempt to reinvent my whole life.  I will be adding new things to the post monthly to let you know where I am in this adventure.
Like almost everyone on this planet I will be tackling the diet, exercise and UFO problems first.
I am committing myself (lol) to finish up or remove from the premises all of my UFO's this year.
I am also committing to revamping my diet over the next year.
I am committing to finishing the Dear Jane Quilt that we are working on.
On that note, after a little hiatus because of the Holiday rush I have finished week 5 and 6 and am starting week 7 this week.

For some reason it won't allow me to upload pictures.  I will as soon as I can
